The primary function of a strategic planning process is to help an organization do a better job - to focus its energy, to ensure that members of the organization are working toward the same goals, to assess and adjust the organization's direction in response to a changing environment. Our first step has been to review the FPIN mission and vision as articulated to date, since a clear and shared understanding of these are essential guides in any decisions or plans made by the committee.
Next, we will review the key strengths, weaknesses, threats & opportunities for FPIN. Our focus will be on the current situation, and changes that we foresee occurring over the next 3-5 years, with a view to highlighting five to ten critical issues around which to organize the strategic plan. Our final step will be to outline general strategies, long-range goals, and specific objectives for FPIN’s response to each of the identified critical issues. At this point, we will produce a written draft strategic plan for consideration by the FPIN board.
