Dear FPIN Colleagues & Friends;

We are pleased to announce that Elizabeth Steiner MD of the Department of Family Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland is the new FPIN Editor in Chief for PEPID PCP (Physicians’ Electronic Portable Information Database for Primary Care Plus).  Dr. Steiner succeeds Vince WinklerPrins, MD, of Michigan State University Department of Family Medicine who has assumed greater leadership responsibilities within his department.

He served ably as PEPID PCP editor for two years during which he led the completion of 330 topics, the incorporation of Clinical Inquiries and HelpDesk Answers and the integration of all US Preventive Services Task Force recommendations into PEPID PCP.  During Vince’s editorship the PEPIP PCP content was developed to the point at which it could truly be called comprehensive and high quality, and got a good start on becoming more evidence based.

Dr. Steiner completed her undergraduate work at the University of Chicago, graduating with honors.  After attending medical school at the University of Massachusetts she completed her family medicine residency at Oregon Health & Science University in 1994. She has subsequently completed the Human Investigations courses of the OHSU K 30 program.  Since 1994 she has had an active practice, teaching and research career.  She is board certified in family medicine, is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, has had certification in Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics since 1995 and served as an ASLO instructor for 8 years.

She has 18 publications, including 13 as first author, three textbook chapters and two Clinical Inquiries.  Dr. Steiner has served as an editor, editorial reviewer, editorial board member, peer reviewer and/or grant reviewer for ten publications or organizations including the Annals of Family Medicine, American Family Physician (editorial board) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Her areas of scholarly interest include medical education methodology at all levels, with emphasis on clinically applicable knowledge and skills, and metrics for evaluating outcomes/efficacy of educational interventions and new curricula, and quality of care assessment in primary care.

Please join us in expressing our deep gratitude to Vince WinklerPrins and Michigan State University for his valuable service, and a warm welcome to Elizabeth Steiner as she fills this critically important role in the FPIN consortium.

Best,
