The mission of the Family Practice Inquiries Network is to use information technology to:
Translate Research into Practice
Teach Clinical Scholarship
Generate Research from Practice
Translating Research into Practice
The translation of research into practice is a complex process. The FPIN approach starts with the clinical question, posed to the community by a curious and reflective practitioner. The next step involves FPIN unique, systematic approach to synthesizing the best available evidence to answer the question in what we call an FPIN Answer. There are currently three types of FPIN Answers designed to provide the most useful information for the primary care physician at the point of patient care. The FPIN Community is committed to developing, adapting and evaluating the types, formats and content of the FPIN Answers with one objective in mind: to answer 80% of physicians' questions within 60 seconds of their time.
Teaching Clinical Scholarship
The FPIN community believes that teaching clinical scholarship is essential for the competent practitioner in the 21st century and teaching clinical scholarship to all medical students, residents, faculty and practitioners is an integral part of the FPIN vision.
Generating Research from Practice
The development process is already well under way in reaching the consortium's intermediate and long-range goals in establishing a collaborative research community.
And as a member of FPIN, the scholarly work of clinical faculty and librarians throughout your organization can earn a part of your membership fee while adding to the publications and academic standing of your organization. Organizations can also use the FPIN system to help them meet the research requirements of their residency training programs. FPIN is a community of inclusion that is committed to working with every organization to help meet their specific needs and to design a membership package that fits the current constraints of the organization.
