FPIN Vision

Our vision is to answer 80% of family physicians  questions within 60 seconds of their time at the point of care with the best available evidence.

FPIN currently has 22 family medicine departments, 78 residency programs and 75 medical librarians.  We envision an international network of academic programs linked to thousands of practices engaged in a virtual learning community of clinicians, librarians, informaticians, and computer scientists asking and answering clinical questions from practice, writing content and keeping it up to date, and integrating this content into multiple information systems.  We imagine all family physicians learning the clinical scholarship involved in translating research into practice, and participating in the generation of new clinical and informatics knowledge through a network of practice based research networks.

Our community is self-sustaining through our voluntary intellectual and leadership contributions and membership dues. Our administrative, editorial and information technology infrastructure is supported by revenue from commercial publishers for clinical content that we write, peer review and edit.  Our research laboratory consists of the practices of our members and provides opportunities for independent and collaborative research.

We expect to serve as a major source of content and evidence-based knowledge used in handheld and web based electronic devices and for integration into electronic medical record systems, for quality improvement, and continuing professional education.
