Clinical Inquiries Citation Examples for the Journal of Family Practice (PDF)

References for the Journal of Family Practice are formatted according to the AMA Manual of Style.

Manuscripts should conform to the "Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts (www.icmje.org/index.html) Submitted to Biomedical Journals" (N Engl J Med 1997; 336:309-15). For questions about style, consult the American Medical Association Manual of Style: A Guide for Authors and Editors. 9th ed. Baltimore, Md.: Williams & Wilkins, 1998. Keep abbreviations and acronyms to a minimum and spell out on first reference, e.g., American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). Regarding medications, generic drug names should generally be used. When proprietary brands are used in research, include the brand name in parentheses in the Methods section.
