    eMedRef Program Implementation

Every program is different, but we have found some steadfast tips to success for implementing the eMedRef project. Faculty Development Workshop
    1. Two half day workshops, pick a topic, research and write
    Resident Research Projects
    1. Pick a topic of interest to write and publish
    Resident Workshop
    1. Two half day workshops, pick a topic, research and write with faculty mentors
    Student Assignments
    • Work with a faculty mentor through the process

    Case Study 1

    Methods
A workshop was held to kick off the project and an eMedRef manager was invited to kickoff the faculty publications and have first drafts written by the end of the workshop.  Another model was to have a smaller scale kickoff meeting with the residents and set a 6 week deadline to have them complete their projects.  Some programs have medical students write these articles as part of their rotations in Family Medicine with much success.

You can see that with an infusion of faculty involvement upfront, eMedRef can assist any residency institution to develop a successful scholarly program in less than 3 years.

    Case Study 2

    Student Implementation
    Penn State-Hershey School of Medicine

    Methods

Dedicated preparation time was provided for the eMedRef project implementation.  Discussion was held on the practical benefits of publication (example-residency applications and interviews).  Success stories of resident peers were exchanged and “buy-in” was solidified by assuring guaranteed publication with guideline compliance and FPIN support.

    Outcomes

    • Participation Rate:  100%
    • Completion Rate:  82%
    • Average time to completion:  10 weeks
    • During a post-publication survey, 4 authors included the eMedRef project as among the most useful components of the Acting Internship course

    * Based on 16 eMedRef Authors
